Smallmouth Bass, Skamania, and more

Summer is here and Smallmouth Bass fishing should continue to be good on the rivers as long as they are in shape.  If you are looking to get in on some good bass fishing on the Grand River or Muskegon River I have some prime dates in July and August open.  Skamania or Summer Run Steelhead have been along the lake shore depending on the water temperatures and a few have been coming into the rivers.  If you want to get out after some of these we can either get in on some lake shore action or we can do some river fishing.  King Salmon fishing is just around the corner for some of our area rivers and the fish I have seen this year on the lake have been very healthy.  We have already brought multiple 20lb fish to the net while fishing Kings when they have been around the shorelines this Spring and early Summer.  I have about half of my dates already booked for September and early October for Kings on the Pere Marquette, Manistee, and Muskegon Rivers.  I was possibly going to do some late August and early September trips on the Betsie river out of a 3 person fishing raft if there is any interest as well.  If you want to get out this year on a guide trip and toss some crankbaits, plug, float and backbounce skein for King Salmon get with me soon.

Muskegon and Grand River Smallmouth Bass and Walleye Fishing

Summer Smallmouth action has been fantastic!  Since my last report I have been bouncing around here and there catching a variety of species including Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Atlantic Salmon, Whitefish, Herring, Pike, Steelhead, and more.  It has been a great Summer so far and we have put a lot of good sized fish in the boat.  By the looks of the fish coming out of Lake Michigan we should continue that trend throughout the rest of the year, the size of the Kings, Coho, and Steelhead have been really impressive.  When I see pictures of 30 plus lb Salmon and 20 lb Steelhead in the month of June that usually means that my tackle is going to take a beating come fall.

If you want to get out this Summer for Smallmouth Bass we have been catching good numbers of fish everyday.  Smallmouth trips are a great way to get out and enjoy beautiful scenery and great fishing that we have here in Michigan.  Summer Smallmouth trips are a great way to get your kids out of the house, the action is usually steady and they are pound for pound one of the hardest fighting fish that swims in freshwater.  We have been catching some decent sized Pike while fishing for Smallmouth Bass, we had one a few trips back grab onto a bass that we were reeling in.  Walleye fishing has been good as well, most of the fish have been in that 15 to 19 inch range but we have seen a few pigs here and there.  We should have some great fishing for Smallmouth and Walleye well into September.

River fishing for Salmon is coming soon and I still have a few dates open but they are going fast.  I have heard of a few Kings entering the rivers over the past month but they are spread pretty thin for the most part.  I suspect that we will be seeing lower numbers of fish around again this year but there will be a chance at some really big fish.

Skamania Steelhead are around as well.  The water temperatures are really high with these high 80 to 90 degree days we have had so I really have not messed around with them lately.  If you want to get out for these we should have some decent fishing once we see a cold front come through again.

Summer Run Skamania Steelhead Fishing, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass Fishing Trips

We have been finding a few Summer Run Steelhead in the rivers over the past week, not good numbers by any means but there are a few are around.  The Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass fishing has been good on the Muskegon and Grand Rivers, top water fishing should take off good soon.  If you are looking to catch some Northern Pike the bite has been good for us on the Grand River as well.  If you are looking to get out on a Skamania or a Skamania/Smallmouth Bass combo guide trip this summer the fishing should be good well into September.  Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Pike fishing guide trips are good action and a great way to spend a Summer day.  My King Salmon trips will be starting that first week of September and my days are starting to fill in so if you want to get out for Kings, Coho, or Steelhead this Fall let me know and we can figure out a date to get out.  If you want to try your hand at some pier fishing for Skamania Steelhead and Salmon a guided trip is a good way to learn how and catch some fish.

West Michigan Smallmouth Bass, Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon Guide Trips

Summer is here and the Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good, Skamania have been around the piers, and some big Kings have been taken out on the lake.  We have been seeing some larger than usual King Salmon, Steelhead, and Coho this year out on Lake Michigan.  There seems to be a good amount of bait fish this year and the fish have been taking advantage.  There have been numerous King Salmon over 20lbs taken this Spring/early Summer and good numbers of Steelhead in the 10 to 15lb range caught as well.  We have been catching some good Skamania from the piers on the right days as well. We should see some real pigs later this Summer and Fall when these fish hit the rivers.

Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good for us on the river, the water has warmed up, levels have dropped, and there are tons of minnows in the river that they have been feasting on.  Smallmouth fishing is usually good steady action for us so if you want to get out on a trip this is a fun one to do.  I offer both jet boat and drift boat trips on the Muskegon River, Grand River, Kalamazoo River, St. Joseph River, and other area waters.  Action should only get better as the Summer goes on!

If you are looking to do a Skamania (Summer Run Steelhead) or Atlantic Salmon trip I will be offering those for the Summer as well.  Get a hold of me and we can get a good date set up for you.

Thinking ahead to fall if you want to get out for some King Salmon, Coho, or Steelhead give me a call or email to set up a trip.  Lots of bait out in the lake this year so we should have some real trophy sized fish showing up this year.

Trout and Bass fishing on the Grand and Muskegon Rivers

The warmer weather is here and we are now focusing more on Smallmouth Bass and Trout fishing.  There are a few Steelhead still on beds on the Muskegon river if you are still looking for those.  Trout fishing on the Muskegon has been decent, we have not landed any monsters lately but we have landed some decent sized brown trout while pitching crankbaits.  The Muskegon River Smallmouth Bass action is not too far off, we should have some great action this Summer.  As the Grand River drops and warms up we should have some great Smallmouth Bass action, Walleye, Pike, Catfish are another bonus while fishing the Grand.  If you are looking to get out this Summer for Smallmouth, Summer Run Skamania Steelhead, Trout, etc., give me a call.

Smallmouth Bass

Smallmouth Bass are pound for pound some of the hardest fighting freshwater fish out there.  They are aggressive and they tend to bite all day during the Summer months here in West Michigan.  We usually start our Smallmouth trips in May when the Steelhead fishing slows down and the water temperatures start to rise.

The Muskegon River, Kalamazoo River, and Grand River here in West Michigan are great fisheries, they provide great numbers and produce good sized fish as well.  We usually target Smallmouth Bass on the rivers with light spinning tackle or fly rods.  June, July, August, and early September are excellent months to chase these fish as you will usually have consistent action throughout the day.  The weather is usually nice this time of year and the scenery is top notch on our West Michigan rivers.  If you are looking for a relaxing float down the river catching some hard fighting fish come on out and enjoy a day of Smallmouth fishing.

Pere Marquette, Big Manistee, and Muskegon River King Salmon River Fishing Coming Soon!

There are a few King Salmon filtering in rivers such as the Pere Marquette, Big Manistee, Betsie, and a few others. I was out on August 15th scouting with a couple of buddies and we put one in the boat and missed one bite as well but did not see much yet.  The numbers should start increasing over the next 2 weeks.  The one we did land weighed over 19lbs and the fish we are catching out on Lake Michigan are looking thick and they are eating well so we should have our hands full when fighting them in the rivers.  I still have some days left for King Salmon fishing on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee over the first 3 weeks of September as well as some days later on in the month and into October for the Muskegon, PM, and Grand Rivers.  If I am booked I have other guides that are available for some of the dates that I have filled as well.  We offer all different methods of catching King Salmon, whether you want to pitch crankbaits and hardware, float or bounce bait, jig for them in the lakes, toss streamers, we do it all.  If you would like to book a trip give me a call, text, or email 616-570-2946.

Pere Marquette River King Salmon Fishing Guide

The Smallmouth Bass fishing has been great here in West Michigan.  I have not been out in about a week for Smallmouth but this hot weather will have the Smallmouth biting on the Muskegon River, Grand River, Kalamazoo, and other area rivers.  If you want to get out and have an action packed day on the river I will be offering Smallmouth trips through the month of August on my off days from lake and river King Salmon fishing.

Muskegon River Smallmouth Bass fishing

Lake Michigan fishing has been picking up for big Kings.  We have been finding good numbers of Salmon on most of our charters out of Muskegon and I have been getting reports from Grand Haven north to Frankfort hearing good things.  We have been catching most of our Kings on meat rigs and plugs.  That 70 to 120 fow has been good with some fish taken inside of that early in the morning and at last light.  The next good cold front to move in should push a good number of Kings and Skamania Steelhead back into the piers and some more up into the rivers.

Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, and Smallmouth fishing in Michigan

We have been catching a variety of species lately all over the state, Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth, and Pike.

Skamania fishing has been good from the piers when the conditions are right and there are more and more trickling into the rivers.  I still have some dates open this Summer for Skamania Steelhead so give me a call if you want to get you butt kicked by some of these insane fish.

I was up in Sault Ste. Marie fishing Atlantic Salmon on the St. Mary's river again this year and we had an awesome time catching a bunch of these high jumping acrobats.  We use a variety of techniques to chase these fish and the Atlantic Salmon are some of the most exciting fish to pursue around. If you are looking to get out and fish the highly prized Atlantic Salmon I will be offering trips for them starting next summer.  If you want to book a couple of days I will offer a discounted rate.  They are well worth the trip up to the UP!

King Salmon Fishing has picked up on Lake Michigan.  The water has started setting up finally making the Kings a little more predictable and easier to target.  Meat rigs have been the best bait for King Salmon while bright colored spoons have taken most of the Steelhead.

Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass fishing has been good with the hot weather setting in.  The Muskegon River and Grand River should have some good Smallmouth action for the rest of the summer.  Although my favorites are the cold water species the Smallmouth Bass are close behind.  Top water baits, crank baits, tubes, craws, whatever, they are an aggressive fish.  The Largemouth Bass and Norther Pike have been on the bite as well in the inland lakes and on slower sections of the rivers.  Tubes, crank baits, and top waters will catch the pike and bucket mouths.

I will be starting my river trips for King Salmon in late August on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee rivers.  I will be offering morning and afternoon crank bait and skein fishing trips for these river monsters.  The numbers on the lake seem a little better than last year and the size is up as well.  The fish are fat and healthy so they should be a real handful when they show up in the rivers.  I will be back and forth between the PM and the Big Manistee depending on where the fishing is best at the time.  Later in September I will be offering trips on the Muskegon and Grand Rivers as well as they start to fill in with fish.  If you have a date in mind let me know so I can get you in the books before the dates fill in.

Pere Marquette and Big Manistee River Salmon Fishing is near.

We are just past the halfway mark in August and a few King Salmon have been entering rivers such as the Betsie, Pere Marquette, Little Manistee, and Big Manistee.  A couple buddies and I did a scouting trip on the 13th on the PM and did not see much, there were a few fish flopping out in the lake but very few signs of life in the river.  Besides a few quick tugs on our crankbaits we never hooked a Salmon that day.  Over the past few days the water on the lake shore of Lake Michigan has been pretty cold so I would imagine a few more fish have slid in up there.

The Skamania fishing has been decent on the lake shore and in some of the rivers.  I was out on a river yesterday for a few hours and we got into a few.

The fishing has been decent around the Muskegon pier heads for King Salmon.  Plugs such as Tomics, J-Plugs, and Silver Hordes have been working well when trolling.

The Smallmouth Bass bite has been good on the Muskegon River and Grand River lately.

I still have a few dates in September open as well as some dates in October and November.  These are some prime time dates and should offer some great fishing for Salmon and Steelhead.

Pere Marquette River and Big Manistee River King Salmon Coming Soon! Lake Michigan King Salmon heating up!

Now that we are into August my King Salmon guided trips on the Pere Marquette River and Big Manistee River are less than a month away.  If you are looking to get out on a guided King trip get with me as soon as possible, I still have some late August, September, and October dates available.  October is a great month for big numbers of both King Salmon and Steelhead so if you would like to try your hands at both that is the time.  We offer the use of centerpin, spinning, or bait casting equipment and cater to all ages and skill levels.  If you have not done the King Salmon Crankbait fishing you have to try it.

The Skamania Steelhead have been around the piers lately and with the colder river temps some of them have been flying up the rivers as well.  If you are into Skamania fishing contact the MDNR and ask them to start planting these in more of our Michigan rivers, maybe if they receive enough emails they will realize how popular this fish has become.

Smallmouth Bass action has been good on the Muskegon River, Grand River, and the Flat River.  Tubes, Senkos, Crankbaits, or live bait has been working good.

The King Salmon fishing out of the port of Muskegon has picked up.  It was a tuff go for Kings over the past month but the past couple of days have been good, hopefully they stick around for the rest of the month.  Steelhead fishing has been great out on the lake trolling, we have found some real hogs this summer.
