Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead Fishing on the Grand River and Muskegon River has been good for us on most days over the past couple of weeks.  We have been doing well float fishing as well as plug fishing.  If you are looking to get out I still have a couple of days open next week as well as a fair number of days still open in late March, April, and May.  I have not taken many pictures lately due to the cold weather that we were having but below are some pictures from the past few outings.

Winter and Spring Steelhead Fishing Guide Trips Muskegon River Grand River

We have had a touch of Spring this past week and it felt great to be out on the river boating a bunch of Steelhead in a little warmer weather.  Steelhead fishing has been great, there seems to be a lot of fish around in the Grand River and Muskegon River.  Float fishing with centerpins and spinning rigs has been our main producer lately but plug fishing has taken its share of fish on some days.  The rain that is forecasted for later on today could make things interesting but fishing should remain consistent when the rivers stabilize.  If you are looking to get out this February, March, April, or May for a Winter/Spring Steelheading trip now is the time to give us a call and get your date in the books before the prime days are taken.  The end of February and March should have some great fishing so if you are looking to get out before the crowds book a date then.  If you would rather wait for some warmer weather and our Spring run of fish late March, April, and May are a good time to book a Steelhead guide trip.  The fish are running large this year so don't miss out!

Below is a small sample of the fish that we have brought to the boat over the past two days.

Winter Steelhead Fishing

Winter finally let up her grip a little this past week and the Steelhead fishing was fantastic.  We caught Steelhead using a variety of methods, float fishing with spawn and jigs, dropping back plugs, and bottom bouncing were all productive.  We have been catching a mixture of colored up fall holdover Steelhead and chrome fish that have not been in the system very long, a few nice Brown Trout have come to the net as well.  The wild life has been out in full force lately, we have seen numerous Bald Eagles everyday, lots of Deer, Raccoons,  a good variety of Waterfowl, etc..  It sounds like most of the smaller area streams are still frozen up pretty good but if you do not have a boat and are looking to get out and wade I hear that they are still catching good numbers of fish at the 6th street dam on the Grand River.  I know some guys that have been walking in near Croton Dam on the Muskegon River as well that have have been picking up a few fish as well on jigs and wax worms.

Spring will be here soon so if you are looking to get out on the Muskegon River or Grand River give me a call to book your dates.  I still have a good number of dates open for February, March, April, and May open.  If you would rather wade in and fish we also offer walk in trips to the Rogue River and White River as well.  If you have a preferred method that you would like to learn let us know, if your looking to learn how to cast and use a Centerpin, back bounce, plug fish, etc. we can shorten that learning curve for you.

Here is a sample of the fish that we boated this past week.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good now that we have had a little break from the deep freeze that we were in.  I did a little wading in on the Grand River up near 6th street dam in Grand Rapids and that was fishing good.  The Muskegon River also has a good number of Steelhead this winter and has been fishing good as well, we have also been finding some nice sized brown trout as a bonus.  Centerpin fishing was excellent yesterday on the Muskegon with many Steelhead to the boat.  We have been taking Steelhead while float fishing, bottom bouncing, as well as plug fishing lately.  If you want to get out and catch some fish I have some openings this coming week.  I also have a good number of openings for February as well.  This is a great time of year to get out on the water as there is minimal traffic, and the fishing is usually good.  We cater to all skill levels so if you know someone that has cabin fever but does not fish much this is a great way to beat the Winter blues and catch some great fish.  We are also booking trips for our Spring run of fish that usually start migrating up river in March so if you want to get out this Spring contact me asap so you can get the prime date that works best for you.

Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Although the weather has not been so hot the Steelhead action has been keeping us warm.   We have been seeing some large fish in the net this season and since my last report the trend has continued.  We are catching a mix of chrome fish that have just entered the river, colored up Fall/Winter fish, and some Skamania that probably entered the river this past Summer.  There has been some slush and ice in the river on some days but with the warm up we just had we did not have to deal with much of it.  Fishing should remain good on the Grand River, Muskegon River, and most area rivers this Winter with the good numbers of fish that we received over the past few months.  The fish are pretty well spread out in the rivers with the higher water that we had most of the fall.  The smaller tributaries like the Rogue, Prairie, etc. had great runs this year so if we have a warm up in temperatures those are not a bad option to check out.

We should have some good fishing ahead of us for most of the Winter so give me a call if you want to get out and experience it.  If you have never caught a Steelhead before that is no problem, we cater to all skill levels, we offer spinning reels, baitcasters, centerpins, fly, etc.  Whether you want to get out and learn how to Centerpin float fish or if you want to sit by the heater and watch me do the work for you by back trolling plugs we can accommodate you and put you on fish.

We are also booking our Spring Steelhead fishing trips so if you have a date in mind get a hold of me so I can get you out on the date that you want.  Spring dates fill up so call me sooner than later if you can.

Merry Christmas!

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good lately on the Muskegon River.  There has been a mix of fresh tight fish, spawners, and dropbacks, fishing should remain good for a couple more weeks.  We have mainly been float fishing with eggs with some back bouncing mixed in.  I plan to so some stickbait fishing for dropback Steelhead over the next couple of weeks, this is a fun way to catch these super aggresive fish.  There are a lot of fish spawning right now and there have been a lot of people fishing the beds with fly rigs if that is your thing.  The water has come down a good amount from the flooding that we had, it is still holding a decent stain to the water.  Trout and Walleye opened back up and there are some great opportunites for them right now, Smallmouth Bass and Catfish will biting good soon so give us a call if you are interested in doing some fishing for them.  We will be back on Lake Michigan starting that second week of May and the great Spring King Salmon Fishing should kick off soon after.  Give us a call if you are interested in any of the great state of Michigans fishing opportunities.

Spring Steelhead Fishing on the Grand River and Muskegon River

Sorry for the lack of reports lately I have been busy with trips, rigging rods, tying bait, etc. etc..  Fishing has been good for us lately, there was one or two days last week that were a little slower but other than that we have been catching a good number of fish lately.

Below are a few pics that I have uploaded.  Will try to get some more up when I get more time.

Grand River Steelhead Fishing

The Grand River has been fishing decent for Steelhead near Grand Rapids.  We have not seen any really big pushes of fish yet but they should not be too far off.  We have been catching a mix of fresh chrome fish and darker winter fish over the past few days.  The water is still high and dirty right now it is way to high to wade near Grand Rapids.  The Muskegon has been fishing pretty slow as far as I have heard from a number of different guides, that should change soon I would think.  I have a couple days open during the week next week and a good number of dates after the 8th of April.  With the prolonged winter like weather this year we should see some excellent fishing through the end of April and maybe into the first part of May.  Give me a call to get out and catch some Steelhead.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing on the Grand River and the Muskegon River has been good for us.  There has been a good mix of fresh silver fish and darker winter Steelhead.  With the rain and snow melt we should see a good push of fresh fish and fishing should really heat up.  Give me a call if you want to get out over the next couple months for some great Steelheading action on the Grand and Muskegon Rivers.

Below are a few of the many fish that have blessed the boat this past week.

Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good on most days for us here around West Michigan.  We have been doing well on the Grand River, the Muskegon River, and some smaller area streams.  I have heard decent reports from the 6th street dam area in Grand Rapids as well as some good fishing upstream near the Ionia area.  We have been catching a mix of fresh Spring Fish along with some Winter holdovers.  Now is the time to book your Spring fishing trips to make sure you get the date that you want.
