Michigan Steelhead Fishing has been FANTASTIC!

1/12/12  I have had some free time to fish myself this week and the fishing has been great, we are seeing lots of bigger than average sized fish.  The Muskegon River, Grand River, Kalamazoo River, and Pere Marquette River have all been putting up big numbers of Steelhead.  The warmer weather that we have had has had the Steelhead acting more like it is late November rather than January, lots of good runs and jumps out of these fish.  We have been taking most of our fish while float fishing with spawn and also taking fish on jigs in the clearer watered rivers.  Most of the rivers around the state have a good crop of fish so the winter fishing should continue to be great.  Give us a call and book a winter trip, the scenery is beautiful and we have the rivers to ourselves.  Below are a few of the many Steelhead that have seen my net over the past few days.

West Michigan Steelhead

1/9/12 Steelhead fishing has been great around West Michigan for 2012!  The Muskegon River, Grand River, Rogue River, and just about any other river on the west side of Michigan has been treating us well.  There seems to still be a decent number of fresh fishing showing up to mix in with the darker fish.  With the crystal clear waters of some of the rivers that we have been fishing it has paid off running the lighter leaders while float fishing and swithing to jigs and bugs on occasion.  Give us a call and get in on the action!

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

1/4/12  After taking a few days off from fishing I was back out today on the Muskegon River.  Fishing was good for us today while Centerpin fishing with floats and spawn, my first drift of the New Year produced a nice little colored up male and we had a couple doubles this afternoon.  We found a handful of chrome fish mixed in with the darker fish today, some of the fish must not have received the memo that it is January as they were still taking some good long runs and jumping around like it was November.  Most of the 10 day forecast looks great and the fishing should remain good.  Below are a few pictures from today.

Pere Marquette River Steelhead Fishing

12/22/11 Steelhead Fishing has been great around West Michigan, today we were on the Pere Marquette River and the bite was hot.  Centerpin Float fishing with eggs and jigs kept the rods bent all day long.  We have been catching some really nice sized fish lately and today was no exception.  It looks like the weather is going to stay decent for the extended forecast and the fishing should be great into well Spring.  Below are a few pics from today.

Grand River Steelhead Fishing

12/19/11 I fished the Grand River up near the 6th street dam today with Jerry and he did a great job putting a bunch of fish into the boat and breaking his new Centerpin rod and reel in. We never seen another boat all day and he caught fish until his arms were sore, he even let me catch a few myself.  It was a mixture of fresh and darker fish today with a 50/50 mix of hens and bucks.  The water is still a little high on the Grand River but there is some good fishing to be had in Grand Rapids at the 6th street dam.  Float Fishing with big spawn bags were the ticket today.  Fishing should remain good on the Grand River well into winter.  Below are a few of the many Steelhead from today.

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

12/2/11 Steelhead Fishing has been good on the Muskegon River for us lately.  We have been getting most of our fish while float fishing spawn sacs with a few jig fish as well.  The Muskegon River was running a little higher than it had been with a nice stain earlier in the week but has since dropped and cleared.  I have not had time to check out the Grand River myself but have heard of some decent numbers of fresh fish showing up in the high water at 6th st.  When the water stabalizes and drops a little bit on the Grand River we should have some good fishing ahead of us.  A good amount of fish have past through Grand Rapids and are filling in the upper river for some great winter fishing in the Ada, Ionia, and Lansing areas.  Below are a few pictures from the past 2 days.

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

12/1/11 Fishing on the Muskegon River has been good, we did not get into the numbers that we did yesterday but we still put a good number of nice fish into the boat.  The Muskegon River should fish good atleast through out the month with the amount of fish that are around.  The Grand River is still rising from the last batch of rain that came through, I have heard reports that the upper stretches of the Grand River are fishing well right now.  Call us for a Winter Steelhead Fishing Guide Trip on the Muskegon River or Grand River.

Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing

11/24/11  Happy Thanksgiving!  Fishing has been good on the Muskegon River and Grand River lately for us.  I have been hearing good reports of the Big Manistee and Pere Marquette River as well.  The fishing has slowed down a little from what it was over the past few weeks but we are still finding good numbers of fish around to play with.  We have been taking most of our fish while float fishing lately, spawn bags and jigs have been the best baits.  Fishing should remain good throughout the winter with the amount of fish that have come in this fall.

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

11/17/11 Steelhead fishing remains strong around West Michigan.  I spent the past two days on the Muskegon River and the fishing was great, we brought lots of fish to the boat both days, with lots of doubles.  Float fishing with smaller spawn bags seemed to be the best producer with the clear water.  The water temps dropped a few degrees last night but most of the fish were still spunky and giving lots of jumps.  Below are a few of the many that we brought to hand.
