West Michigan Smallmouth Bass, Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon Guide Trips

Summer is here and the Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good, Skamania have been around the piers, and some big Kings have been taken out on the lake.  We have been seeing some larger than usual King Salmon, Steelhead, and Coho this year out on Lake Michigan.  There seems to be a good amount of bait fish this year and the fish have been taking advantage.  There have been numerous King Salmon over 20lbs taken this Spring/early Summer and good numbers of Steelhead in the 10 to 15lb range caught as well.  We have been catching some good Skamania from the piers on the right days as well. We should see some real pigs later this Summer and Fall when these fish hit the rivers.

Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good for us on the river, the water has warmed up, levels have dropped, and there are tons of minnows in the river that they have been feasting on.  Smallmouth fishing is usually good steady action for us so if you want to get out on a trip this is a fun one to do.  I offer both jet boat and drift boat trips on the Muskegon River, Grand River, Kalamazoo River, St. Joseph River, and other area waters.  Action should only get better as the Summer goes on!

If you are looking to do a Skamania (Summer Run Steelhead) or Atlantic Salmon trip I will be offering those for the Summer as well.  Get a hold of me and we can get a good date set up for you.

Thinking ahead to fall if you want to get out for some King Salmon, Coho, or Steelhead give me a call or email to set up a trip.  Lots of bait out in the lake this year so we should have some real trophy sized fish showing up this year.

Trout and Bass fishing on the Grand and Muskegon Rivers

The warmer weather is here and we are now focusing more on Smallmouth Bass and Trout fishing.  There are a few Steelhead still on beds on the Muskegon river if you are still looking for those.  Trout fishing on the Muskegon has been decent, we have not landed any monsters lately but we have landed some decent sized brown trout while pitching crankbaits.  The Muskegon River Smallmouth Bass action is not too far off, we should have some great action this Summer.  As the Grand River drops and warms up we should have some great Smallmouth Bass action, Walleye, Pike, Catfish are another bonus while fishing the Grand.  If you are looking to get out this Summer for Smallmouth, Summer Run Skamania Steelhead, Trout, etc., give me a call.

Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing Report

New Steelhead should be showing up good with the high water we have had on the rivers here in West Michigan.  The Muskegon is pretty high as of today April 3 and the Grand is still on the rise and expected to peak sometime tomorrow or Tuesday.  We should have some great Steelhead fishing over the next 3 or 4 weeks.  Before the rivers went up we were doing good on the Muskegon River with a mix of fresh run Steelhead and some darker Wintered over fish with some really nice Brown Trout thrown in here and there.  The Grand River has been pretty slow over all this Spring from what I have heard and seen so I have not been fishing it much at all.  It seems like it has been an off year so far for the Grand River, hopefully those fish are showing up with this high water that we have right now.  I will be on the Muskegon River for the rest of the Spring for Steelhead and still have a few dates later in the month if anyone is looking to get out when the weather is warmer.  These should be some great dates for fishing.  Give me a call if you are interested in getting into some Steelhead in warmer weather.  I have 4, 6, or 8 hour trips in the morning, late morning, and afternoons.

Spring Steelhead Fishing on the Grand and Muskegon Rivers

Spring is here and fresh Steelhead are showing up daily.  I have mainly been fishing on the Muskegon River but have hit the Grand lately as well.  The Grand River has been pretty high and dirty over the past week or two and is starting to shape up good.  We are forecasted more rain so it could get pretty ugly again for the Grand.  6th street dam in Grand Rapids has a good mix of some fresh steelhead and suckers showing up.  The Muskegon has been fishing decent over the past couple of weeks for us, it seems like fresh fish have been trickling in.  We have seen some pretty good sized fish mixed in with the average size ones that we have been catching.  With a little bump in the water we should see a good push of fish and it will be game on.  It looks like we are forecasted a little cooler weather this week which is good, it should prolong our Steelhead season.  I have some dates later in April that I was holding off on booking so if you want to get out I have the 13th, 18th,19th, 21st, 22nd, 26th, and 27th open.

Spring Steelheading on the Muskegon and Grand River

Our Steelhead fishing has been good on the Grand River and Muskegon River.  These warmer temperatures we have had in February has brought in some of our Spring Steelhead and we have been getting good numbers.  It has not been insane easy fishing most days but by knowing the rivers and how to get them we have been putting good numbers of fish to the net everyday.  I expect an earlier than normal run of fish this year with the current water temperatures and lack of ice on Croton and Hardy ponds.  We have already caught a couple of male steelhead in february that were already spawning or were all set to go.  Give me a call if you want to get out, I still have some good dates in March and April open.  I am not sure how May will play out for Steelhead this year with the warmer weather, I am sure the Muskegon will still have fish but how many is another question.  616-570-2946

Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing Guided Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good for us so far this year, we are catching a mix of fish that have been around for awhile and silver fish that have just shown up.  We have been float fishing mostly but have been taking fish with other methods as well.  If you are looking to get out this Winter or Spring give me a call ASAP as my Spring dates are starting to fill in.  I still have a fair number of days available but the calls are starting to increase.  If you want to get out and try some centerpin fishing that has been the way of choice lately, I have centerpin rods and reels from Raven Tackle for your use.  Winter is a great time to get out and get into a bunch of fish with barely anyone on the water so if you have cabin fever and want to get out give me a call.  Here are a few pictures from the past few outings.

West Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Winter Steelhead fishing is finally here!  The water temps have dropped and the fish are sitting in their normal Winter holding spots.  We should have some good Steelhead fishing here in West Michigan until we get our Spring run of fish.  The Muskegon river has been where I have mainly fished lately but we have had some decent days on the Grand River as well.  I would imagine the Grand should be icing up and running slush with the colder days we are having but the Muskegon will stay ice free.  I had heard some good reports from the Kalamazoo river before this cold weather hit so there should be good numbers in there as long as there is fish able water.  The Pere Marquette river received a good shot of fish as well and it should fish well for the rest of the winter as long as it does not freeze up.

Give me a call if you want to get out and beat the cabin fever that usually sets in during January and February, this is a great time to be out enjoying the great scenery and top notch fishing that Michigan has to offer.

Spring will be here before you know it so if you plan on booking a Spring Steelhead fishing trip let me know ASAP before my dates fill in.  Unless we have a really harsh end to our Winter I would expect our Spring run to show up a little earlier than it has over the past 2 years.  Book your Spring Run Steelhead Fishing Trip today!  616-570-2946

Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing Guide Trip Reports

We have had some good Steelhead action while fishing on the Muskegon River and Grand River with a few nice brown trout mixed in.  The Muskegon river seems to have good numbers of steelhead from Croton Dam down to he lake with most of the fish in the upper reaches.  The Grand River has been good for us but the numbers overall in the river seem to be down so far this year.  With the warmer than average weather the fish are just shooting through the lower river and most have either stalled around Grand Rapids or have shot over the 6th street dam to the upper sections of the river.  I have heard good reports for the Kalamazoo river with more than average numbers for that river.  The Pere Marquette river has been fishing pretty good as well for steelhead and resident trout.

If you are looking to get out over the Winter on a guided steelhead fishing trip we should have some good steelhead action for the next couple of months.  Spring will be here before you know it as well so book your Spring Steelhead fishing trips now.

I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing Report

Steelhead Fishing continues to be amazing for us on the Muskegon River and Grand River.  This warm weather we have been having has had good numbers of fish entering the rivers and the fish have been super charged jumping around and taking long line burning runs.  We are set up to have some great fishing throughout the winter on the Muskegon River.  We have been taking fish while float fishing, back bouncing, and plug fishing.  With the higher water last week I had a day where we shot up into Grand Rapids to the 6th street dam and fished and that was some fast and furious action.  The Muskegon River from the dam down to the lake has been fishing good.

If you are looking for a gift idea for someone that likes to fish or likes to be outdoors I have gift certificates.  They can be used anytime throughout the year for my river trips,  Steelhead, Salmon, Smallmouth, etc., they are a great Christmas gift.  I still have a good number of January, February, March, and April dates open so help me fill them up and we can go and beat up on some fish.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing Guided Trip Reports

Steelhead fishing has been good for us on the Muskegon and Grand Rivers.  We have been catching good numbers on my guide trips everyday.  Although the numbers that are in the rivers have been down a little bit we have still been having great days on the water.  I hear that the Kalmazoo has had a great run so far this year, the PM and Big Manistee I hear have been decent but still a few less fish than normal.  We are expecting rain tonight, tomorrow, and on Friday so that will hopefully bring another batch of fish up the rivers.

Happy Thanksgiving!
