Big Manistee and Pere Marquette River King Salmon Fishing

King Salmon fishing has been picking up on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee Rivers.  The run is not in full swing by any means but there have been enough fish around to keep it interesting.  We have been catching fish on crankbaits, bait, and plugs.  The Betsie river sounds like it has had the best numbers of fish around so far but the Betsie always recieves a good early run of Salmon.  The Pere Marquette and Big Manistee should pick up with more fish over the next couple of weeks.  At the moment I have September 4, 8, 9, 21, and 22 open and those are historically all great dates to get out.  I also have some October dates for the Muskegon and Grand RIvers for Salmon and Steelhead,  Late October, November, and December are excellent months for Steelhead so give me a call and book a great day of Steelhead fishing here in West Michigan.

Pere Marquette, Big Manistee, and Muskegon River King Salmon River Fishing Coming Soon!

There are a few King Salmon filtering in rivers such as the Pere Marquette, Big Manistee, Betsie, and a few others. I was out on August 15th scouting with a couple of buddies and we put one in the boat and missed one bite as well but did not see much yet.  The numbers should start increasing over the next 2 weeks.  The one we did land weighed over 19lbs and the fish we are catching out on Lake Michigan are looking thick and they are eating well so we should have our hands full when fighting them in the rivers.  I still have some days left for King Salmon fishing on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee over the first 3 weeks of September as well as some days later on in the month and into October for the Muskegon, PM, and Grand Rivers.  If I am booked I have other guides that are available for some of the dates that I have filled as well.  We offer all different methods of catching King Salmon, whether you want to pitch crankbaits and hardware, float or bounce bait, jig for them in the lakes, toss streamers, we do it all.  If you would like to book a trip give me a call, text, or email 616-570-2946.

The Smallmouth Bass fishing has been great here in West Michigan.  I have not been out in about a week for Smallmouth but this hot weather will have the Smallmouth biting on the Muskegon River, Grand River, Kalamazoo, and other area rivers.  If you want to get out and have an action packed day on the river I will be offering Smallmouth trips through the month of August on my off days from lake and river King Salmon fishing.

Lake Michigan fishing has been picking up for big Kings.  We have been finding good numbers of Salmon on most of our charters out of Muskegon and I have been getting reports from Grand Haven north to Frankfort hearing good things.  We have been catching most of our Kings on meat rigs and plugs.  That 70 to 120 fow has been good with some fish taken inside of that early in the morning and at last light.  The next good cold front to move in should push a good number of Kings and Skamania Steelhead back into the piers and some more up into the rivers.

Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, and Smallmouth fishing in Michigan

We have been catching a variety of species lately all over the state, Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth, and Pike.

Skamania fishing has been good from the piers when the conditions are right and there are more and more trickling into the rivers.  I still have some dates open this Summer for Skamania Steelhead so give me a call if you want to get you butt kicked by some of these insane fish.

I was up in Sault Ste. Marie fishing Atlantic Salmon on the St. Mary's river again this year and we had an awesome time catching a bunch of these high jumping acrobats.  We use a variety of techniques to chase these fish and the Atlantic Salmon are some of the most exciting fish to pursue around. If you are looking to get out and fish the highly prized Atlantic Salmon I will be offering trips for them starting next summer.  If you want to book a couple of days I will offer a discounted rate.  They are well worth the trip up to the UP!

King Salmon Fishing has picked up on Lake Michigan.  The water has started setting up finally making the Kings a little more predictable and easier to target.  Meat rigs have been the best bait for King Salmon while bright colored spoons have taken most of the Steelhead.

Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass fishing has been good with the hot weather setting in.  The Muskegon River and Grand River should have some good Smallmouth action for the rest of the summer.  Although my favorites are the cold water species the Smallmouth Bass are close behind.  Top water baits, crank baits, tubes, craws, whatever, they are an aggressive fish.  The Largemouth Bass and Norther Pike have been on the bite as well in the inland lakes and on slower sections of the rivers.  Tubes, crank baits, and top waters will catch the pike and bucket mouths.

I will be starting my river trips for King Salmon in late August on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee rivers.  I will be offering morning and afternoon crank bait and skein fishing trips for these river monsters.  The numbers on the lake seem a little better than last year and the size is up as well.  The fish are fat and healthy so they should be a real handful when they show up in the rivers.  I will be back and forth between the PM and the Big Manistee depending on where the fishing is best at the time.  Later in September I will be offering trips on the Muskegon and Grand Rivers as well as they start to fill in with fish.  If you have a date in mind let me know so I can get you in the books before the dates fill in.

Grand River, Muskegon River, Lake Michigan, West Michigan Fishing Reports

It is hard to believe but July is already here and we are well into our Summer fishing.  There are lots of opportunities out there right now.  We have Smallmouth Bass and Trout fishing on the Muskegon River, Smallmouth Bass, Pike, Catfish, etc. on the Grand River.  The Skamania are hitting off from the piers and a few are filtering into the rivers.  There are some good sized King Salmon showing up in our catches on Lake Michigan along with Steelhead, Lake Trout, and the odd Coho and Brown Trout.  There seems to be a good amount of bait fish around this year in the lake and the Kings that are out there seem to be bulking up after the long Winter/Spring we had.  We are seeing good Kings over here but a lot of the larger 20 to 25 lb fish that I have heard about are still over in Wisconsin waters, some of those fish should start making there way over here as the summer goes on and the urge to head into their natal rivers kicks in.

If you are looking to get out this Summer I will be offering Summer Run Steelhead fishing trips in the rivers over the next couple of months.  Skamania or Summer Run Steelhead are insane when you hook into them, they are one of the wildest fish around when hooked.  These fish can be caught using a variety of methods such as float fishing, drift fishing, fly fishing, casting hardware, plugging, etc..

Skamania Steelhead Fishing

I will be up on the St. Mary's River in Sault Ste. Marie fishing for Atlantic Salmon later in July and have a couple days open for that if you want to get out and catch some of these magnificent fish.  When hooked Atlantics are usually in the air showing off how high they can jump followed by long fast runs that will surely have your blood pumping.  These fish are one of the most prized game fish in the world and we have them right here in Michigan.  Float fishing, casting, fly fishing, and drift fishing are the most popular ways to fish for Atlantic Salmon.

St. Mary's River Atlantic Salmon

If you are looking to get out and catch some Smallmouth Bass we have a number of different trips for those.  The Muskegon River, Grand River, Thornapple River, Flat River, Rogue River, etc..  Some of the Smaller rivers I offer Kayak and Wade trips on if you are looking for a combo Kayak/Fishing Trip.  There is some excellent fishing on some of these smaller waters.

Lake Michigan fishing is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon with with family.  There are some good sized Kings out there this year and as the lake sets up over the next few weeks we should see some better fishing for those as well as Steelhead, Trout, and Coho.

Lake Michigan King Salmon Fishing

Starting in late August thru October we will be chasing King Salmon in the rivers.  I will be up on the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee throwing crankbaits, fishing bobbers and skein, as well as some other techniques.  Later in the Salmon run I usually head south as the fresher fish enter the Muskegon and Grand River.  These fish are sure to get your heart racing when you hook into one of these river monsters.  If you are looking for a combo King Salmon and Steelhead fishing trip mid October is a great time for that.

Smallmouth Bass, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, King Salmon Michigan Fishing Report

Fishing has been good lately for a lot of species depending on where you go.  We have been catching Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Steelhead, and Smallmouth on the Muskegon River.  If you are looking to get out and throw some hardware on the Muskegon now is a good time to book a trip for that.  The Grand River and its tributaries have been fishing well for Smallmouth, Catfish, and a bunch of other species.  The Smallmouth Bass fishing should be heating up good as the river drops and warms up over the next few weeks.  We should have some good fishing all summer long if you are looking to get out and have a fun day floating down the river and catching these aggressive Smallies. Lake Michigan has been good to slow depending on the day for King Salmon, Lake Trout, and Steelhead.    Inland lake fishing has been good for Bluegills and Largemouth Bass.  Skamania Steelhead fishing is not too far off so give me a call if you would like to book a trip on the pier or on the rivers for them.  They are some of the best fighting fish of the year.

Give me a call if you are looking to get out this summer, I will be working on Lake Michigan as well as the rivers and inland lakes.  If you are looking to book a trip this September or October for King Salmon on the Big Manistee, Pere Marquette, or Muskegon Rivers get a hold of me ASAP so I can get your date written in.  I will be starting my fall river trips that last week of August.

Spring Kings, Smallmouth Bass, and Trout Fishing

I wrapped up on my Spring Steelhead fishing this past weekend and it is nice to chase some other species now that I have the time.  May is a great time of year to get out and enjoy the fishing that Michigan has to offer.  The lake fishing for King Salmon is just kicking off and I heard of some decent catches today from the ports of Holland and Muskegon.  The King Salmon that are being caught sound like they are averaging in that 8 to 12lb range with some larger and smaller ones thrown in.  I will be out tomorrow and over the next few days on Lake Michigan chasing Kings myself.  The Bass fishing has been pretty good on area lakes and rivers, we caught some nice Smallmouth out of the Grand River before all of the rain hit.  Bluegill fishing was good for us the other day, the big ones were staging just off from the dropoffs in the lake we fished.

If you are looking to get out and onto some fish give me a call.  We are booking Lake Michigan Salmon and Trout fishing trips, River trips for Bass, Pike, Walleye, Brown and Rainbow trout, etc...  Panfish, Bass, and Pike fishing on inland lakes.  We are also starting to book dates for Fall river fishing for King Salmon and Steelhead so if you are looking to get out on the Big Manistee, Pere Marquette, and Muskegon river for September and October King Salmon give me a call and get a date set.

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good on our Muskegon River guide trips.  The recent rain brought in a few more fish and we are catching a mix of fresh and darker fish.  The Grand River still has a few fish moving through as well from what I hear, guys are mostly targeting them in Grand Rapids at the 6th street dam.  The Rogue river up near Rockford has been seeing some small pushes of fish lately and guys are catching fish anywhere from the dam down to the mouth of the Grand River.  I still have a few days that first week of May open, I have the 5th, 6th, and 7th open for anyone that wants to get out.  I will get some more pictures up when I get some more free time but here are a few.

Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing Report

Steelhead fishing has been pretty good for us on the Grand River and Muskegon River.  We have been putting a decent number of Steelhead in the boat on all of our guide trips lately, it has been a good mix of darker winter fish and chrome spring run steelhead.  Float fishing with bags, beads, jigs, and rubber worms has been working well.  Plug fishing with plugs such as the new mag lip 3.0, hot n tots, and wiggle warts has been taking fish.  Bottom bouncing bait or wobble glos has caught steelhead as well.  The 6th street dam in Grand Rapids had been fishing great earlier this week but will probably be slowing down as the fish move upstream to spawn in the tributaries such as the Rogue River and others upstream of Grand Rapids.  The rivers are low, cold, and clear at the moment so look for the run to be another drawn out one this year.  We should have good fishing into mid May from what it looks like.  If you are looking to get out I still have some days in April and May to fill for fishing on the Muskegon River.  Below are a few pictures taken since my last update.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Spring Steelheading has gotten off to a slower start than usual but we are still finding plenty of fish to play with.  The slow start should mean that we will have a later than usual run of Steelhead into our rivers.  The Grand River should fish well for the next few weeks, the Muskegon River should fish well into May again this year.  We have been catching a mix of chrome and wintered up steelhead over the past week, more chromers should be showing up daily.  We have been taking fish while float fishing, back bouncing, and plug fishing.  Guys fishing from the shores in Grand Rapids at the 6th street dam have been getting a few fish off from the wall and post office.  If you are looking to get out we should have some great fishing on our West Michigan rivers over the next month and a half and I have some open dates here and there throughout March, April, and the first part of May.

Muskegon River and Grand River Spring Steelhead Fishing

it is Mid March and Spring is here, the runs of Spring Steelhead should be showing up soon.  The Grand River is up pretty high and should be getting its first push of Spring fish soon.  They are catching a few fish at the 6th street dam in Grand Rapids but not may fresh fish yet.  The Muskegon is coming up a little and has a nice stain and hopefully some new fish will start showing up any day as well.  It sounds like a few fresh fish are sneaking into the Pere Marquette River but from the sounds of it the past couple of days have been tougher fishing up that way.  Float fishing, bottom bouncing, and plug fishing has been our productive methods lately for catching Steelhead and Brown Trout.  I still have some days left in March as well as April and May if you are looking to book a trip.  We should have some great Spring Steelheading for atleast the next 2 months so don't miss out.  Below are a few pictures taken since the last update.
