Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing Report

Steelhead fishing has been pretty good for us on the Grand River and Muskegon River.  We have been putting a decent number of Steelhead in the boat on all of our guide trips lately, it has been a good mix of darker winter fish and chrome spring run steelhead.  Float fishing with bags, beads, jigs, and rubber worms has been working well.  Plug fishing with plugs such as the new mag lip 3.0, hot n tots, and wiggle warts has been taking fish.  Bottom bouncing bait or wobble glos has caught steelhead as well.  The 6th street dam in Grand Rapids had been fishing great earlier this week but will probably be slowing down as the fish move upstream to spawn in the tributaries such as the Rogue River and others upstream of Grand Rapids.  The rivers are low, cold, and clear at the moment so look for the run to be another drawn out one this year.  We should have good fishing into mid May from what it looks like.  If you are looking to get out I still have some days in April and May to fill for fishing on the Muskegon River.  Below are a few pictures taken since my last update.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Spring Steelheading has gotten off to a slower start than usual but we are still finding plenty of fish to play with.  The slow start should mean that we will have a later than usual run of Steelhead into our rivers.  The Grand River should fish well for the next few weeks, the Muskegon River should fish well into May again this year.  We have been catching a mix of chrome and wintered up steelhead over the past week, more chromers should be showing up daily.  We have been taking fish while float fishing, back bouncing, and plug fishing.  Guys fishing from the shores in Grand Rapids at the 6th street dam have been getting a few fish off from the wall and post office.  If you are looking to get out we should have some great fishing on our West Michigan rivers over the next month and a half and I have some open dates here and there throughout March, April, and the first part of May.

Muskegon River and Grand River Spring Steelhead Fishing

it is Mid March and Spring is here, the runs of Spring Steelhead should be showing up soon.  The Grand River is up pretty high and should be getting its first push of Spring fish soon.  They are catching a few fish at the 6th street dam in Grand Rapids but not may fresh fish yet.  The Muskegon is coming up a little and has a nice stain and hopefully some new fish will start showing up any day as well.  It sounds like a few fresh fish are sneaking into the Pere Marquette River but from the sounds of it the past couple of days have been tougher fishing up that way.  Float fishing, bottom bouncing, and plug fishing has been our productive methods lately for catching Steelhead and Brown Trout.  I still have some days left in March as well as April and May if you are looking to book a trip.  We should have some great Spring Steelheading for atleast the next 2 months so don't miss out.  Below are a few pictures taken since the last update.

West Michigan Steelhead Fishing Guide Trips

Steelhead fishing here in West Michigan has been good for us this Winter and should continue to be so.  We have been seeing some Lake Run Brown Trout mixed in our catch as well.  We have been taking Steelhead and Brown Trout while fishing plugs, float fishing, and bottom bouncing.  I had a chance to get out and run some of the new Wordens Mag Lips 3.0 plugs and they look pretty good in the water, we did catch fish on them as well during the short time fishing them.  I have plenty of days open so give me a call and we can get out and catch some fish.  I have been getting calls for Peak Spring Steelhead Fishing as well so if you want to get out on the Grand River or Muskegon River this Spring get a hold of me ASAP so we can get you the day that you want.  If you are looking for a Grand Rapids 6th street dam report, guys are picking at a few fish up there while wading in or fishing the walls.  There is no way of getting a boat up there unless you put in at the dam, the river has been iced up down stream of town and there is no way to get up there as of right now.

Put an end to the cabin fever and book a trip.  This is a great time to get out and enjoy the great fishery and scenery we have here in Michigan.

Winter Steelhead Fishing on the Grand and Muskegon Rivers

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and got out and caught a few Steelhead for the Holiday Season.  Steelhead fishing on the Grand River and Muskegon River has been good for us over the past few weeks.  We have been catching some nice Steelhead and Trout on my guide trips and while out playing around on my days off.  There does seem to be a few less fish around this year from normal but we are still putting up some pretty good numbers.  The water temps are getting down in the low 30s and the fish are in winter mode now.  A lot of the fish in the rivers have been caught or poked a few times so switching up your offerings and thinking outside of the box can bring a few more fish to hand, especially in those harder hit areas such as the 6th street dam in Grand Rapids or near the Croton dam on the Muskegon river.

If you are looking to get out this Winter or Spring give me a call and I can get your preferred day or days in the books.  Winter is an awesome time to be out on the water, the steelhead and trout fishing and scenery is a great way to beat that cabin fever.  If you are worried about booking ahead of the time for Winter fishing I am pretty flexible in the Winter, if the weather is looking really cold or hazardous for driving I will give you the option of choosing a different day.  Getting to the river safely and having fun is the most important thing.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!

Grand River and Muskegon River Guided Fishing for Steelhead

Our guided steelhead fishing trips have been going good on the Muskegon and Grand Rivers.  We have been catching good numbers of fish everyday, it has been a good mix of fresh run fish and darker fall run steelhead.  Float fishing, bottom bouncing, and plugs have been putting fish into the boat.  It seems like the fish are pretty spread out in the river systems, the Muskegon has a good number of fish from Croton down to the lower stretches, the Grand has fish in the upper above the dam in Grand Rapids as well as in the lower below town.  I have heard some decent reports from guys that I know that fish the Kalamazoo, they have been doing well while fishing plugs.

If you are looking for a great Christmas idea we are offering our discounted Winter Steelhead fishing trips through February.  Our Winter trips are 4 or 6 hour trips and I provide a heater on the boat to keep your hands warmed up between fish.

Here are a few pictures that were taken since my last report.
