Muskegon River and Grand River Steelhead Fishing

Spring Steelhead fishing is officially here, if you are going by the calendar that is.  The runs of Spring Steelhead are a little behind this year due to the extreme Winter we have had, the good thing is that we had a great push of fall fish and some small trickles of fresh fish that have kept us busy lately.  Steelhead fishing over the past couple of weeks on the Muskegon River and Grand River has been good on most days but there have been a few days that we have had to work for them a little harder.  We have mainly been float fishing for Steelhead with spawn and beads. We have also had some great days that we were mainly drop back fishing plugs were we were putting double digit numbers of fish into the boat as well.  The Grand River is running pretty high right now with stained water, they are catching some winter hold overs as well as a few fresh fish up at the 6th street dam.  The Rogue River and White have opened up for the most part and have been fishing decent for mostly hold over Steelhead.  The Muskegon is running pretty low for this time of year and we have been catching mostly Fall and Winter run Steelhead with a true chrome one here and there.  The size of the fish lately has still been impressive, we have boated numerous Steelhead over the past week between that 12 and slightly over 16lb range.  I am guessing that the bigger runs of fish will be a couple of weeks behind schedule this year.  Look for April and the first half of May to have some great Steelheading.  If you are looking to try out Centerpinning we have all new Raven gear for this season.  We also offer the use of Spinning and Baitcasting reels as well.  We are offering 4, 6, and 8 hour trips for this Spring so give us a call to get out and enjoy this great resource that we have here in Michigan.

Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead Fishing on the Grand River and Muskegon River has been good for us on most days over the past couple of weeks.  We have been doing well float fishing as well as plug fishing.  If you are looking to get out I still have a couple of days open next week as well as a fair number of days still open in late March, April, and May.  I have not taken many pictures lately due to the cold weather that we were having but below are some pictures from the past few outings.

Winter and Spring Steelhead Fishing Guide Trips Muskegon River Grand River

We have had a touch of Spring this past week and it felt great to be out on the river boating a bunch of Steelhead in a little warmer weather.  Steelhead fishing has been great, there seems to be a lot of fish around in the Grand River and Muskegon River.  Float fishing with centerpins and spinning rigs has been our main producer lately but plug fishing has taken its share of fish on some days.  The rain that is forecasted for later on today could make things interesting but fishing should remain consistent when the rivers stabilize.  If you are looking to get out this February, March, April, or May for a Winter/Spring Steelheading trip now is the time to give us a call and get your date in the books before the prime days are taken.  The end of February and March should have some great fishing so if you are looking to get out before the crowds book a date then.  If you would rather wait for some warmer weather and our Spring run of fish late March, April, and May are a good time to book a Steelhead guide trip.  The fish are running large this year so don't miss out!

Below is a small sample of the fish that we have brought to the boat over the past two days.

Winter Steelhead Fishing

Winter finally let up her grip a little this past week and the Steelhead fishing was fantastic.  We caught Steelhead using a variety of methods, float fishing with spawn and jigs, dropping back plugs, and bottom bouncing were all productive.  We have been catching a mixture of colored up fall holdover Steelhead and chrome fish that have not been in the system very long, a few nice Brown Trout have come to the net as well.  The wild life has been out in full force lately, we have seen numerous Bald Eagles everyday, lots of Deer, Raccoons,  a good variety of Waterfowl, etc..  It sounds like most of the smaller area streams are still frozen up pretty good but if you do not have a boat and are looking to get out and wade I hear that they are still catching good numbers of fish at the 6th street dam on the Grand River.  I know some guys that have been walking in near Croton Dam on the Muskegon River as well that have have been picking up a few fish as well on jigs and wax worms.

Spring will be here soon so if you are looking to get out on the Muskegon River or Grand River give me a call to book your dates.  I still have a good number of dates open for February, March, April, and May open.  If you would rather wade in and fish we also offer walk in trips to the Rogue River and White River as well.  If you have a preferred method that you would like to learn let us know, if your looking to learn how to cast and use a Centerpin, back bounce, plug fish, etc. we can shorten that learning curve for you.

Here is a sample of the fish that we boated this past week.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good now that we have had a little break from the deep freeze that we were in.  I did a little wading in on the Grand River up near 6th street dam in Grand Rapids and that was fishing good.  The Muskegon River also has a good number of Steelhead this winter and has been fishing good as well, we have also been finding some nice sized brown trout as a bonus.  Centerpin fishing was excellent yesterday on the Muskegon with many Steelhead to the boat.  We have been taking Steelhead while float fishing, bottom bouncing, as well as plug fishing lately.  If you want to get out and catch some fish I have some openings this coming week.  I also have a good number of openings for February as well.  This is a great time of year to get out on the water as there is minimal traffic, and the fishing is usually good.  We cater to all skill levels so if you know someone that has cabin fever but does not fish much this is a great way to beat the Winter blues and catch some great fish.  We are also booking trips for our Spring run of fish that usually start migrating up river in March so if you want to get out this Spring contact me asap so you can get the prime date that works best for you.

Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Although the weather has not been so hot the Steelhead action has been keeping us warm.   We have been seeing some large fish in the net this season and since my last report the trend has continued.  We are catching a mix of chrome fish that have just entered the river, colored up Fall/Winter fish, and some Skamania that probably entered the river this past Summer.  There has been some slush and ice in the river on some days but with the warm up we just had we did not have to deal with much of it.  Fishing should remain good on the Grand River, Muskegon River, and most area rivers this Winter with the good numbers of fish that we received over the past few months.  The fish are pretty well spread out in the rivers with the higher water that we had most of the fall.  The smaller tributaries like the Rogue, Prairie, etc. had great runs this year so if we have a warm up in temperatures those are not a bad option to check out.

We should have some good fishing ahead of us for most of the Winter so give me a call if you want to get out and experience it.  If you have never caught a Steelhead before that is no problem, we cater to all skill levels, we offer spinning reels, baitcasters, centerpins, fly, etc.  Whether you want to get out and learn how to Centerpin float fish or if you want to sit by the heater and watch me do the work for you by back trolling plugs we can accommodate you and put you on fish.

We are also booking our Spring Steelhead fishing trips so if you have a date in mind get a hold of me so I can get you out on the date that you want.  Spring dates fill up so call me sooner than later if you can.

Merry Christmas!

Grand River, Muskegon River, and Pere Marquette River Steelhead Fishing

Well Winter is hear and so are the Steelhead.  All of the rivers on the west side of Michigan seems to have had a great run of Steelhead this fall.  We have been fishing on the Grand River, Muskegon River, and Pere Marquette River as of lately and fishing has been good for Steelhead and the occasional Lake Run Brown Trout.  The Steelhead size has been very impressive this year we have hooked into and landed some of the biggest Steelhead I have seen in years.  We have taken fish on guide trips while float fishing, bottom bouncing, and dropping back plugs.  With the colder temps the fish are settled into their Winter holding lies so look for the slower water to hold most of the fish this time of year.  We have taken most of our fish on spawn and beads so far this year but as the water drops, cools down, and clears the jigs and bugs are a good bet as well.

If you are looking to get out on a Guide Trip this Winter for some Steelhead Fishing give me a call.  The fish have been big and plentiful so we should have an awesome Winter fishery this year.

If you are looking for a Christmas gift idea we are offering gift certificates for the Holidays.  This is a great gift for the sportsman in your family.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good with the higher water on the Grand River and Muskegon River.  We have been float fishing and dropping back plugs on our guide trips and have been putting good numbers of Steelhead into the boat.  Most of the West Michigan river such as the Pere Marquette River, White River, Rogue River, Big Manistee, Kalamazoo, etc., have good numbers of fish for the winter season.  I still have some dates in December if you are looking to get out and enjoy some great Winter Steelheading.

We are offering gift certificates for the holidays so if you have a fisherman on your list give us a call.

Steelhead fishing on the Grand River, Pere Marquette River, and Muskegon River has been good.  There are a good number of fish around this year and the size of them continues to be nothing short of impressive.  We have been catching fish while float fishing, back bouncing, drift fishing, and dropping back plugs.  We should have an awesome winter fishery this year with all of the water that we have had this fall.  We will have plenty of fish to play with this December and January and there will be some real trophy sized fish in the rivers to be caught.  Below are a few pictures from the past couple of weeks.

November is here and Steelhead fishing is great.

Steelhead fishing has been good so far this fall, good numbers of fish and they seem to be running larger than average this year.  I do not think that I have seen steelhead as thick as the ones we have this year since back in the late 90s.  It seems with all of the rain that we have had over the past week you can choose a river and not go wrong with it as far as finding fish, they all seem to be fishing well.  As far as the techniques that have been working, again you can probably pick your favorite and catch fish at this time of year.  We have mainly been float fishing with beads and spawn bags, plug fishing, and bottom bouncing.  If you would like to get out this fall I still have a few dates in November as well as a good number of open dates in December.  December usually provides some excellent fishing as the fish start to congregate into their winter spots and become very predictable.  As for dates right now I have the 30th of November.  For December dates I have a good number of days open so give me a call if you are interested in one of those, fishing should be great in December with the higher water that we have this fall.
