Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Although the weather has not been so hot the Steelhead action has been keeping us warm.   We have been seeing some large fish in the net this season and since my last report the trend has continued.  We are catching a mix of chrome fish that have just entered the river, colored up Fall/Winter fish, and some Skamania that probably entered the river this past Summer.  There has been some slush and ice in the river on some days but with the warm up we just had we did not have to deal with much of it.  Fishing should remain good on the Grand River, Muskegon River, and most area rivers this Winter with the good numbers of fish that we received over the past few months.  The fish are pretty well spread out in the rivers with the higher water that we had most of the fall.  The smaller tributaries like the Rogue, Prairie, etc. had great runs this year so if we have a warm up in temperatures those are not a bad option to check out.

We should have some good fishing ahead of us for most of the Winter so give me a call if you want to get out and experience it.  If you have never caught a Steelhead before that is no problem, we cater to all skill levels, we offer spinning reels, baitcasters, centerpins, fly, etc.  Whether you want to get out and learn how to Centerpin float fish or if you want to sit by the heater and watch me do the work for you by back trolling plugs we can accommodate you and put you on fish.

We are also booking our Spring Steelhead fishing trips so if you have a date in mind get a hold of me so I can get you out on the date that you want.  Spring dates fill up so call me sooner than later if you can.

Merry Christmas!

Grand River, Muskegon River, and Pere Marquette River Steelhead Fishing

Well Winter is hear and so are the Steelhead.  All of the rivers on the west side of Michigan seems to have had a great run of Steelhead this fall.  We have been fishing on the Grand River, Muskegon River, and Pere Marquette River as of lately and fishing has been good for Steelhead and the occasional Lake Run Brown Trout.  The Steelhead size has been very impressive this year we have hooked into and landed some of the biggest Steelhead I have seen in years.  We have taken fish on guide trips while float fishing, bottom bouncing, and dropping back plugs.  With the colder temps the fish are settled into their Winter holding lies so look for the slower water to hold most of the fish this time of year.  We have taken most of our fish on spawn and beads so far this year but as the water drops, cools down, and clears the jigs and bugs are a good bet as well.

If you are looking to get out on a Guide Trip this Winter for some Steelhead Fishing give me a call.  The fish have been big and plentiful so we should have an awesome Winter fishery this year.

If you are looking for a Christmas gift idea we are offering gift certificates for the Holidays.  This is a great gift for the sportsman in your family.

Grand River and Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good with the higher water on the Grand River and Muskegon River.  We have been float fishing and dropping back plugs on our guide trips and have been putting good numbers of Steelhead into the boat.  Most of the West Michigan river such as the Pere Marquette River, White River, Rogue River, Big Manistee, Kalamazoo, etc., have good numbers of fish for the winter season.  I still have some dates in December if you are looking to get out and enjoy some great Winter Steelheading.

We are offering gift certificates for the holidays so if you have a fisherman on your list give us a call.

Steelhead fishing on the Grand River, Pere Marquette River, and Muskegon River has been good.  There are a good number of fish around this year and the size of them continues to be nothing short of impressive.  We have been catching fish while float fishing, back bouncing, drift fishing, and dropping back plugs.  We should have an awesome winter fishery this year with all of the water that we have had this fall.  We will have plenty of fish to play with this December and January and there will be some real trophy sized fish in the rivers to be caught.  Below are a few pictures from the past couple of weeks.

November is here and Steelhead fishing is great.

Steelhead fishing has been good so far this fall, good numbers of fish and they seem to be running larger than average this year.  I do not think that I have seen steelhead as thick as the ones we have this year since back in the late 90s.  It seems with all of the rain that we have had over the past week you can choose a river and not go wrong with it as far as finding fish, they all seem to be fishing well.  As far as the techniques that have been working, again you can probably pick your favorite and catch fish at this time of year.  We have mainly been float fishing with beads and spawn bags, plug fishing, and bottom bouncing.  If you would like to get out this fall I still have a few dates in November as well as a good number of open dates in December.  December usually provides some excellent fishing as the fish start to congregate into their winter spots and become very predictable.  As for dates right now I have the 30th of November.  For December dates I have a good number of days open so give me a call if you are interested in one of those, fishing should be great in December with the higher water that we have this fall.

West Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing around Michigan has been great.  The Grand River, Muskegon River, Big Manistee, and most of the smaller streams have been doing well for fresh fall lake run Rainbow Trout.  The fish are running a little larger this year due to the abundance of Alewive in Lake Michigan,  these are the healthiest fish I have seen in years and they are showing it while you are doing battle with them.  If you are looking for a true trophy sized Steelhead this is going to be the year to find it.  We have been catching most of our fish while float fishing lately but back bouncing and fishing plugs has produced as well when we have done it.  The rain that fell last night and what is coming today should bring in another pile of fish to play with.  November is my favorite month of the year to chase Steelhead, these fish are in prime shape, the water temperatures are perfect, and they are ready to beat up your tackle as they tear off down river cartwheeling through the air.  Give me a call if you would like to get out and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year.  Below are a few of the many Steelhead that we hace been catching.

Steelhead are here!

We have switched gears from King Salmon over to Steelhead this past week.  There are decent numbers of fish in most of the West Michigan Rivers such as the Grand River, Muskegon River, Rogue, White, PM, and Big Manistee if you know where to look.  This time of year eggs are hard to beat for bait but we have been taking good numbers of fish while working plugs as well.  I have some great dates open this month and next if you are looking to get out on a guide trip and enjoy some excellent Michigan Steelhead Fishing.

Pere Marquette River and Muskegon River King Salmon Fishing

Fishing for King Salmon has been good on the Pere Marquette River and Muskegon River.  We have been doing well on most days fishing bait and hardware.  Fishing for Kings should be good for a couple more weeks atleast and then the steelhead should be showing themselves in decent numbers as long as we get some cooler weather.  We should have some hog sized Steelhead this year with all of the baitfish that were out in the lake this year.  I still have a few days available for King Salmon and some great dates for Steelhead during October, November, and December so give me a call if you are looking to get out.

Pere Marquette River King Salmon Fishing

King Salmon fishing has been good most days on the Pere Marquette River.    We have been casting thundersticks and fishing bait.  Although we have not been doing huge numbers yet we have been catching good numbers and the fish have been large.  The fish seem to be spread throughout the river system pretty good this year.  I have been hearing that there are a good number of fish from the fly water down.  It did seem that the fish in the lower sections of the PM shot out of there with the rain from the other day but there have been some new ones filtering in to replace them.  I still have some early October dates for King Salmon open if anyone is looking to get out, I am also booking trips for October, November, December Steelhead right now.  If you have a date in mind email, text, or call me.

Here are a few pictures from the past week.

King Salmon on the Pere Marquette River

Sorry for the lack of reports but I have been out on the water just about everyday for the past month.  I am now on the river fishing for King Salmon and have been fishing the Pere Marquette over the past week.  Fishing has been ok some days and tough others when fishing crankbaits or bait.  There have been a decent number of fish around and they should start biting better with this cooler weather that we are having.  The fish are running big this season and landing them has not been easy, when hooked these fish are definately a handful.  If you are looking to get out for King Salmon this year I still have some dates available the first and second week of October, and then we will be getting into Steelhead season.  If you have some Steelhead dates in mind let me know asap so you can make sure you get out when you want to.
